The design of a custom floor canvas begins as a collaborative effort between Karen and you, the client. Each canvas is painted after careful consideration of the room's decor, colors and space. Your participation is critical to the creation of piece that will enhance the beauty of your home. The following guidelines will assist you.
The first step is to determine where you would like to place a floor canvas. Remember that canvases can be placed on any hard surface - wood, tile, concrete, linoleum. Take a look around your home. Where do you need an accent of color, some striking or subtle design to integrate the other design elements of the room? What forms, images and colors are you drawn to?
Look at home decorating magazines and art books for your inspiration. Look at nature. Determine the size of the canvas that will fit the space you have chosen. For a dining table canvas, measure the table and add another 2.5 feet all the way around allowing space for chairs to be easily moved back and forth.
The next step is to collect color samples. Fabric swatches, paint chips, wallpaper samples help Karen match the canvas colors precisely to the colors in your room. Although photographs of the room are not reliable color guides, you can send pages from decorating magazines that show color combinations in rooms that appeal to you. Now, you are ready to send your request with color samples, dimensions, ideas, and a photo of the room ( not necessary ) along with your telephone number and a check for the design fee ($150 non-refundable credited toward your canvas).
Once I have received your design packet, I will call you to begin a more specific dialogue about your canvas - placement, traffic patterns, imagery, which colors are to be dominant, borders or no borders, and the cost. Because each canvas is custom designed, each is unique to the clients needs.
With all the information in hand, I begin to work on a design for your floor canvas. The drawing includes a pencil sketch, a corner of which will be colored in to show the interplay of hues. I will send the sketch to you and, upon approval and receipt of a 50% deposit, I will begin work on the canvas depending upon the schedule of commissions I already have. The lead time is on average 2 months.
