Karen McCall is a nationally recognized decorative artist whose custom, hand-painted floor canvases and floorcloths have appeared in "Better Homes and Gardens Building Ideas" and the Sun Valley Magazine. Her artwork was also featured in a collaborative graphic for the H.J. Heinz Annual Report. Her original canvases have been exhibited at the Sun Valley Arts and Crafts Festival and, currently, her work is shown at The Open Room, a store of contemporary European furniture www.openroomfurniture.com.
McCall's lifetime interest in art began at a young age when she spent hours with her grandmother painting, drawing, doing mosaics and visiting the Philadelphia Museum of Art. At the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a degree in Cultural and Intellectual History, she combined a love of art history with a study of philosophy and history which have provided her many creative pursuits with a rich and eclectic background.. She painted her first floorcloth twenty six years ago, and first exhibited her work a year later at a show entitled "Domestica" at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts and Humanities.
With a keen eye for color and design, McCall has translated a unique historic art form into striking motifs that suit the varied interior design styles of today's homes. Using acrylic paints and durable finishes, she creates long-lasting, sturdy, fade resistant floorcloths. As an alternative to area rugs, canvases can be placed on wood or concrete floors, kitchen tile, in entry ways, under the dining table, in a child's playroom.
